The geographical region Cilento extends about 90 km south of Naples between Sapri and Paestum, in the southern part of the province of
Salerno. It has a coastline that is over 100 km long with long sandy beaches and beautiful bays. It surprises by varied landscapes, a large diversity of animals and plants, as well as the dark blue, clean sea. The Cilento
has been the centre of many important greek colonies, like Velia (ancient Elea) and Paestum (ancient Poseidonia), but also the place for myts and legends. In 1998, UNESCO designated the Cilento National Park a World Heritage Site and today it is an important tourist area of Italy.
